A Story and a Lesson About Client Service

The Story
If there’s one thing I’ve always personally taken pride in, it’s the landscaping of my home and roofing business. I believe it’s important to take care of your property and having quality surroundings makes for a beautiful, serene location to be proud of.

What does this have to do with roofing and our roof monitoring program named LOOKOUT™? I’m getting to that part.

Years ago, I had a complete revelation about client service. For three years I worked with a landscaper. He never made recommendations of how I could make my property look better or what needed to happen to prevent future issues. Every time he came to take care of my trees and grass he would leave and there would still be debris and a mess all over the yard. So I would call him up each time and ask him to come back to take care of it.

Often, I would end up spending my own weekends picking up all of the things that this company missed time and time again.
I seriously spent three years chasing this man down to get my lawn to look nice. That’s 1095 days, folks.

Then one day, I was going to visit a client in a beautiful business park. I looked at my surroundings and wished to myself that I could have a lawn like these people did.

Then I had an epiphany. I CAN!

Is It Time For A Change?
So, I talked to a landscaper in the area that was highly recommended and after seeing the quality of his work, I hired him. He did an excellent job on my yard the first time and I immediately kicked myself for being so dim.

I asked myself why I had spent so long fighting with a man to get his job done correctly the first time. And then it occurred to me: I had come to expect that this was just how it was going to be. I became complacent in my vendor service standards.

So now, what does this have to do with LOOKOUT Roof Monitoring Program? Well, it has something to do with any contracting business. People tolerate bad service because they have come to expect it.

But people–you don’t have to tolerate it! Don’t spend years, weeks, or even just hours of your life chasing down people you’ve hired to work for you. It’s not worth it.

Instead, find a company who cares about YOU. One that strive to build relationships with their clients and uphold the highest standards for their products, ethics and services.

Always remember that you deserve the best and you get what you pay for!
