We wrote about safety a little while back, focusing on the ways in which Castro Roofing prioritizes safety among its workers.

Since then, I’ve been thinking about the fact that construction as an industry is one of the worst offenders as far as worker fatalities and injuries. The most frequently cited violation of OSHA standards for the fiscal year of 2014 was fall protection, at a whopping 6,143 violations!

It was so bad that OSHA decided to initiate a fall prevention campaign. I feel bad about these statistics because falling is primarily a construction-related hazard. Too many contractors and construction companies are risking the lives of their workers, and the worst part is, it’s totally preventable!

Safety is a Core Value

Before I step down off my soapbox, I just want to reiterate the importance of safety. If you’re in charge of roof maintenance for your building or facility, don’t let someone go out on the roof without proper safety precautions in place.

It harkens back to one of our other core values: ethics. It’s just wrong to unnecessarily risk the lives of good people by not being mindful of safety.

Whether you use Castro for your roofing needs or not, I urge you to place safety at the forefront of your list of concerns when you send someone onto the roof.
