Here’s the deal, we’re growing our commercial roofing department team and we’re looking for a Commercial Roof Senior Estimator to add to our team. We’re going to skip all the clichés about this “exciting and challenging and fulfilling opportunity.”
Instead, here’s a list of some words that will describe the person we’re looking for (quick note: these are not cliché words that are thrown around lightly and it would be a good idea for you to take an honest assessment of whether they describe you before applying).

DETAILS OF THE ROLE
Collect Data and Estimate
We want someone who makes things happen on a daily basis. In this position that means analyze the project to determine the plan of attack, schedule tasks, determine the scope of work and equipment required to execute that scope.
The estimator shall account for project items that are erroneous or omitted from the issued bid documents but are necessary to comply with applicable construction codes or to complete the project. This may involve redesign and resizing of roofing components or systems. Using experience, determine the subcontractors to be approached for a specific project, and make arrangements for their participation in the process. Determine the most cost effective materials and equipment; directing vendors to provide current pricing and verifying products will be available for the project duration at cited prices and quantities. Determine the most cost effective means for personnel lifting, material rigging and equipment hoisting for the project conditions. Use trade specific estimating labor cost calculations based on wage class, manpower availability, crew ratios, etc. Understand, use and assist in improving an effective system of assemblies and estimating factors.

Expertise
- 5 years’ experience as a commercial roofing estimator
- Bachelor’s Degree or above preferred.
- Familiar with different commercial roofing systems and manufacturers (BUR, Modified Bitumen, Standing Seam, Single-Ply, Sheet Metal Flashing, etc.) .
- The EDGE estimating software a plus.
- Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, client sketches as well as ability to design roofing solutions.
- Must have a high mathematics and logical aptitude.
- This is not totally a direct and mechanical process, but one that is creative and demands a high level of concentration, mental effort and judgment.
- Must demonstrate competence in measuring techniques and possess a good general knowledge of economics.
- You need to have a natural talent to start and finish projects on time.
- Must be highly detail oriented and can solve problems with little guidance.
What You Will Own
As our Senior Estimator, you will be response for creating accurate estimates on time to meet the sales goals.
The Senior Estimator’s responsibilities focus on the continuous output of prices and determining scope of work on assigned projects. The Senior Estimator coordinates, facilitates, briefs and defends the costs and price he/she arrives at based on it’s experience and judgment.
You’ll get to co-create, help design, develop and assess project details and specifications to make sure everything we do is done correctly and complies with what we promised our client. One of your main focus will be the accuracy and timely of the estimates.
You will perform measurements of roofs (aerial images, digital files, hand sketches and on-site visits) and estimates for sales and production teams. You will make job site visits to survey existing conditions and provide other assistance to the Chief Estimator as requested. Meeting deadlines is crucial for this position.

You execute the work with excellence and a high sense of urgency. You don’t understand procrastinators because you are not one.
