I mentioned a few months ago that I met Emmett Smith at a conference. Well, another celebrity I had the pleasure of meeting was Barbara Corcoran at the 2013 GKIC SuperConference in Orlando, Florida, where she was featured as a guest speaker. (The Glazer Kennedy Insider Club is known for its role as a marketing resource for small business.)

For those who don’t know her, Barbara Corcoran is one of the stars on ABC’s hit TV show Shark Tank, and she’s a successful real estate businesswoman in her own right. After starting her own business with a $1000 loan from her then-boyfriend at age 23, she grew it over the years into a $5 billion business that she sold for $66 million!

Fast forward to the conference. Barbara taught the attendees all about how to start, grow, and expand their businesses. I was inspired by the way she encouraged everyone, and it was definitely a growing experience for me!

At the conference, they also held a Shark Tank event. I noticed that Barbara put marketing and small business guru Dan Kennedy in his place, which was refreshing. She had a no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners attitude that I really appreciated.

Here at Castro Roofing, we’re always straightforward and honest with our customers, because we know how important it is to be forthright with people when it comes to projects as important as commercial roofing. I admire people that have the gumption to stand up for their values, and we strive to do the same.

Most of all, she was a delight to talk to. I’m grateful to have had the chance!
