The Big Three Ways You’ll Help Deliver Peace of Mind:

  1. Deliver the Red Carpet experience to all our clients by executing with excellence what the Client purchased plus 1%. Target of 60 Net Promoter Score (NPS). Get testimonial letter/video on 90% of all projects.
  2. Assure all company procedures are followed on projects and are continually improved.
  3. Meet Gross Profit margins assigned to each market.

Position Summary:

  • The Production Manager is “THE MAN”, with full responsibility of all phases of the job.
  • Manages multiple roofing projects involving original construction, re-roofs and repairs.  Responsible for the overall labor and material cost for assigned projects.   The Production Manager is responsible for the overall effectiveness of the entire production team. Provides direct and indirect guidance (via Superman) and direction to crews in meeting the budgets and schedule dates on each assigned project.  Ensures job quality, safety and client delight is maintained in every stage of the project. Interacts directly with client and vendors to build lasting relationships. Ensures that the field is aware of any special client conditions, checks estimator’s quantities to ensure accuracy, documents change orders, plans and organizes production schedules, assesses project and resources requirements.
  1. Once a job has been sold and turned in by the sales department with the cost breakdown, the production manager will schedule a hand-off meeting with the sales consultant, field-check the job, checking all costs to determine whether the job can be performed to a satisfactory conclusion at the specified profit.
  2. Once a job has been accepted by the company, the production manager sets up the job ready for construction. This will include completing and obtaining approved submittals by client, writing up material lists for every item, negotiating prices with subcontractors, writing up work orders, completing the Job Flow Checklist and confirm all required information is entered into FCS.
  3. Prior to the start of work, the production manager will meet with the Superman assigned to the project and debug the job, ensuring that all specifications and job conditions have been reviewed.
  4. Prior to the start of work, the production manager and the Superman will meet with the salesperson and clients in a pre-construction conference where all details and potential problems will be ironed out and all decisions made by the client. On smaller, simpler projects, it may not be necessary for the production manager to attend.
  5. The Superman is responsible for ensuring that the foreman assigned to the project is completely aware of all project information and have the Project Start Up-Kit ready.
  6. The production manager is responsible for coordinating the billing process and the collection of progress payments.
  7. The production manager will ensure that routine change orders are estimated, written up and signed by the client. When change orders involve more substantial work than is typically handled by the production department, the production manager will coordinate with the sales department on pricing and selling of change orders.
  8. The production manager maintains an adequate work force to meet the needs of the company. Monthly meetings will be held with all lead Foremen and Supermen to keep them informed and discuss any problems.
  9. The production manager keeps a job cost record and checks on whether actual costs are exceeding estimated costs in any area. The Superman and foreman shall also have the job cost information to make appropriate recommendations and take appropriate actions to meet the schedule and profitability of project.
  10. The production manager is responsible for all company vehicles, tools and equipment, including their maintenance in good operating condition. Any issues shall be brought to the attention of the Shop Manager for appropriate corrective action.
  11. The production manager submits to management a monthly production report including progress on each job, percentage of completion, and estimated total volume for each job, including estimated gross profit.
  12. Prior to the completion of the job, the Superman, at the direction of the production manager, meets with the client(s) and salesperson to prepare the Zero Defect quality control pre-completion punch list. This will be signed by the client(s) and, when completed, the final check will be collected.
  13. The production manager will implement and supervise incentive programs for foreman to maximize performance.
  14. The production manager approves all requests for payments to subcontractors after initial approval by the Superman.
  15. The production manager reviews all materials invoices and approves payment after the Superman verifies that they are properly allocated to the job, priced accordingly, and that the invoices reflect actual shipments.
  16. The production manager, together with the Superman, goes over final plans and specifications to ensure that there are no problems in filing and obtaining building permits, and coordinates all necessary inspections during the course of the job.
  17. The production manager is responsible for recruiting, negotiating and developing a working relationship with a subcontractor in every trade. This includes developing a unit cost for every standard task.
  18. The production manager will develop standardized products and systems, and develop a relationship with manufacturers, suppliers and subcontractors in every category. This will be a strategic brand partnership and will include training and technical support, as well as pricing and delivery.
  • Creates the type of positive environment that works to maintain a happy, sufficient and qualified work force, overseeing production processes. Reports to the company CEO and operates under general supervision.

What You’ll Own

  • Castro Roofing’s Vision. You will be the Chief Kool-Aid Officer (CKO) for the entire production department.
  • Creating delightful client relationships which include consistent follow-through, setting proper expectations, and advocating for client issues within internal departments.
  • Is the main operator and trainer for the FCS program (responsibilities per the FCS model).
  • Quality of the finish roof and experience of our clients.
  • Project Pulse Reports are done accurately and consistently by others.
  • Bringing the job within budget.
  • Using technical knowledge and client service skills to address clients’ needs and resolve problems while providing an exceptional level of service.

Daily Deeds

  • Communicates daily with Supermen to review completed work and to plan for current and future work.
  • Communicate weekly with CEO related to progress of projects, profitability, all issues/concerns, clients’ experience and recommendations for improvements.
  • Manages all phases of project, (roofing, sheet metal, masonry, etc.).
  • Studies project specifications and/or blueprints to plan procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times, staffing requirements, and materials for each phase of construction.
  • Ensures timely and accurate procurement materials and tools to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Confers with and directs Supermen, owners / managers, workers and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, blueprints, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
  • Confers with Supermen, workers and sub-contractors to resolve complaints and grievances within the work force.
  • Confers with clients, company CEO, company Supermen, company Estimators, sub-contractors and other vendors to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Confers with Safety Director as to the safety needs of our clients, the crews and projects.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports. Visits sites to ensure company approved methods of safety and quality are adhered to.
  • Reviews Project Pulse Reports as needed to assure reports are meeting company goals.
  • Reviews project assignments, plans procedures for construction on basis of starting and completion times and analyzes staffing and material requirements for each phase of construction.
  • Reviews electronic time sheets with Supermen as needed to assure accuracy.
  • Photographs job activity as needed to ensure that job site is safe and workmanship is of the highest quality, reviews with CEO.
  • Attends job site and office meetings as scheduled.
  • Attends continued education classes as needed or required by company.
  • Performs final walk-through with company sales consultant, client/owner, or building manager.
  • Confirms Notice of Completion to manufacturers and, or meets with manufacturer’s representatives for approval, or to clear any issues, with respect to warranties.
  • Reviews jobs after close-out to determine overall job performance.
  • Reviews current processes and makes technical/process recommendations for improving efficiency.
  • Incorporates best practices in operational procedures and documentation.
  • Assists in the evaluation of new roofing materials, equipment and installation methods.
  • Stays up to date with relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Assists estimator and sales consultant related to estimating projects.

Skills/Experience/Training required:

Required 10 year experience as a field superintendent with 5 year experience in the roofing industry.  Should have thorough knowledge of roofing codes and safety practices.  Shall have detailed knowledge and experience with a wide range of roofing systems and roofing manufacturer’s requirements including various types of modified bitumen, built-up, single and multiple ply membrane and standing seam metal roof systems.  Shall have accomplished the OSHA 10 Hour safety course.  Being bilingual a plus.  Expert level with FCS CRM software (production). Should have working knowledge of computers, being able to navigate around an office system and be accomplished in the basics of Excel, Word and Outlook.

 1.      Trade or Department Specific Responsibilities 

Run the Pre-Job Planning Meetings. Monitors manpower movement and maintains proper project crew sizes, crew rates, projections and scheduling.  Makes material requisitions approvals and purchasing interaction Coordinates rental orders placement and use.  Focal point for job safety within sphere of influence assists in review and investigation of job-site accidents and insurance losses and writes violation reports/citations.  Monitors job and project quality regarding workmanship, job-site documentation, installation per contract requirements, completion of punch lists and adherence to company processes and procedures.  Coordinates other project specific issues such as for subcontract labor, schedule forecasting, material buy-outs, installation schedules, daily job-site planning, trip tickets, material availability, and overall job schedules.  Assures distribution of project information up and down the trade chain of command.

 2.      Administrative Responsibilities

Performs administrative tasks such as tracking and verifying project specific budgets, budget coding for labor and material, time sheets and attendance, checks job info for accuracy and completeness (as-built, revisions) and other pertinent job info.  Attends, as needed, all job site and office meetings related to assigned projects.  Is well prepared to handle issues that may come up.  Ensures vendors or sub-contractors are handling project items, punch lists and schedule so they do not have a negative impact on the project.  Monitors project related information that is generated by the company job cost and accounting system and is able to read, review and interpret data to assist in making correct business decisions related to specific projects. Makes no alterations to company procedures (operation or technology) without prior approval by CEO.

3.      Marketing Responsibilities

Develops relationships that builds lasting trust and confidence in Castro Roofing. Castro Roofing’s goal is for continued repeat and referral business.  Ensures the needs of our clients and its representatives as well as entrusted employees are met.  Obtain client feedback and assures the NPS score is met.

4.      Financial Responsibilities

Manages labor and materials to ensure assigned projects meet or beat budgets for each job.  Tracks hours and manpower on all jobs, ensuring revisions are processed timely and material consumption does not exceed estimates. Approves or rejects overtime after discussing with CEO.

5.      Supervisory/Management

Serves as a coach for his people by assisting Supermen and administrative staff reach Vision and quarterly goals. Continually provides training in areas needing improvements to ensure quality, production and safety.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Note: Has authority and responsibility to coach and counsel, verbal and written, direct reporting employees, up to and including suspension. However, must have authorization from Company CEO before terminating any employee.
